Prof Lawrence Schlemmer (Director) Lawrence Schlemmer has been involved in a large variety of applied and academic research initiatives over a period of more than 45 years and has been involved with MarkData since 1990. Formerly a Dean of the Faculty of Social Science at the University of Natal, Professor in the University of the Witwatersrand Graduate School of Business, Director of the Centre for Policy Studies, Vice President of the Human Sciences Research Council, Strategy Director of the Urban Foundation, President of the Association for Sociology in Southern Africa and an honorary professor at various universities.

He was an elected Founder member of the Academy of Science of South Africa, a research associate at the Arnold Bergstraesser Institute, Freiburg, Germany, and has lectured at various foreign universities. He is a PhD graduate of the University of Cape Town and is the author or co-author of some 300 publications, reports and 15 books. He specialises in strategic research, the operating environment of business, development strategy and social and environmental impact assessment.
