Tertia van der Walt (Managing Director) Tertia van der Walt was Director of MarkData, the survey unit within the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC), for several years. She joined the HSRC in 1985.

She privatised MarkData Pty Ltd in 1996 and is presently the Managing Director of MarkData – a strategic, commercial research facility for public and private sectors.

Tertia was a representative for both MarkData and the HSRC on the Association of Marketing Research Organisations (AMRO).

Serving as member on the National Council of the Southern African Marketing Research Association (SAMRA), Tertia held the portfolio for Professional Standards for the Marketing Research Industry and was the Chairman of the Pretoria Branch of SAMRA for several years. She was a member of the Demographic Society of Southern Africa (DEMSA). She is also a member of the European Society of Opinion and Marketing Research (ESOMAR).

Tertia van der Walt has more than 35 years experience in research and specifically survey methodologies. Tertia was responsible for the development of methodologies and techniques to undertake surveys for the 88 problematic sampled areas for the 1991 Census. Tertia was also on the Advisory Committee of Central Statistical Services (now Stats SA) for several years.

She also developed methodologies for Demographic, Health and Fertility surveys for the HSRC and other studies initiated by international sponsors.

Within MarkData (Pty) Ltd she focuses on larger or more complex studies for strategic input regarding Demographic studies, SMME and Informal enterprise development, community and infrastructure development, tourism and health studies.

Tertia has successfully managed more than 500 research projects.
